The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics recently completed a 7-year, 13-phase remodel and expansion of the Emergency Trauma Center. Our office was the architect of record and worked with RTKL Chicago, the medical design consultant.

The project, a multi-phase remodel and addition to the existing trauma center, was accomplished while keeping the remainder of the department open for business.

The upper level contained administration offices and staff break/locker areas. The lower level provided additional offices for the staff including the residency program and a 40-seat auditorium.

In 2007 the scope of the project was expanded to include the removal and replacement of the waterproofing and traffic surface of the 15,000 square feet area of the Colloton Pavilion courtyard to the south. Located directly above the general stores for the hospital, it was imperative that the work be as non-intrusive and as effective at keeping moisture out as possible.
